The hotel located in Bawtry, has not sat still during lockdown, and has turned the negative into a positive by taking the time to redevelop the hotel, almost throughout, ready to greet the arrival of leisure guests next month.

Craig Dowie Managing Director explains “While we have remained open for essential business travellers throughout the pandemic, weddings have been put on halt, the bar and restaurant have been closed and no leisure guests have been permitted. We have however used the time wisely to redevelop the hotel and make us in the best position possible for May! New to the Crown will be the Terrace @ The Crown Hotel Bawtry with alfresco dining and drinking and will be open all day from breakfast, with live music Friday evening and Sunday afternoons. The façade of the hotel has been rendered and painted with new signage. The main hotel restaurant has also a new addition of a Robata Grill, and the restaurant has been rebranded as The Robata Grill Restaurant @ The Crown Hotel Bawtry. We are thrilled to be opening one of the first in the region right in here in Bawtry and the grill makes food taste totally delicious! To add to the equation, we have also decided to open the Café Express @ The Crown Hotel Bawtry also and will offer a takeaway service with Yorkshire pudding wraps, sandwiches, salad bar, ice cream and waffles – a great place for work breakfast and lunches, plus a great destination to bring the family at the weekend for a treat. We will even be serving Doggy Ice cream!”

The hotel is proud to have retained most of the staff during the pandemic and has also been on a recruitment drive for reopening due to the new food and beverage outlets. They are proud to announce the appointment of Daisy Astell to the team as their new Operations Manager, to oversee the day to day running of the food and beverage operations. Daisy, from Doncaster has years of experience in the food and beverage industry, and the local market. Daisy is also studying at Open University for a BA Honours in Business Management. Daisy commented “I am thrilled to be joining the team at the Crown Hotel. I absolutely love meeting new people and enjoy helping guests have a great experience, whether they are out for a Friday night after work drink, lunch with the girls or a celebration. The new restaurant and Terrace at the Crown are going to be amazing in Bawtry and oversee its operation is an absolute privilege! Please call in and say hi!”

Original redevelopment plans for 2020 were brought forward and directors Craig Dowie and Jason Cooper saw the opportunity to do the work while the hotel was closed. The front of the hotel has been rendered and new signage installed back to the original Crown Hotel & Posting House. Inside, the bar and reception areas have been decorated to match the development of the Hogarth suite and lounge earlier in 2020. New bar stools and chandeliers are also in place ready for the hotel bar opening on the 4th July.

Craig Dowie Managing Director commented “The hard work is now done. We still have the outside seating area to do for eating and drinking, and we also need to add the exterior canopies, but we are almost there.”.

The hotel accommodation has also been accepting essential workers since the 1st June, and are now taking leisure booking accommodation from the 4th July following full government advice. Couples wanting to get away for the first time since lockdown can enjoy the ‘Lockdown Unlocked’ offer of bed, ‘grab & go’ breakfast and a bottle of proesseco for just £100.

The Crown bar also reopens on the 4th July, and while the restaurant remains closed, the hotel will take advantage of the extra tables and use as an extended bar – being the largest most spacious bar in Bawtry. Craig commented “We have our full bar operating policy on our website and social media and wanted to be totally transparent as to what people coming to drink with us will expect. The main thing is, is that our guests and staff are safe, and this is a priority at all times”.

Sales Manager Katey Dent added “Whilst is has been a sad time for many of our wedding couples postponing their big day, we have been working with the couples to move their date along with suppliers to ensure they have the big day they dreamed of at our venues -2021 looks very busy! We have remained visible on all social media channels reminding people of our hotel and our sister venue Bawtry Hall. Lockdown has been an opportunity for couples to plan a wedding, and Craig our MD has been doing tours of our venues to couples – he has really enjoyed it and we have reaped the rewards with many couples booking”.

Katey Dent Sales Manager commented “After the huge success of our sister venue Bawtry Hall and its giant indoor blossom tree, we felt it was only right to give the Crown the same superb makeover with the addition of a sister blossom tree! The tree is situated on arrival for weddings and events and will be a great location for arrival drinks and canapes, and more importantly the perfect backdrop for wedding photographs and social media snaps.”

The tree bark and branches are made from natural cherry trees from sustainable woodlands, and the white silk blossom are individually handcrafted for the project. The branches and blossom fill the ceiling space in the lounge area, and there are also thousands of fairy lights woven into the blossom for lighting.

Craig Dowie Managing Director of The Crown and Bawtry Hall explains “We think the tree looks fabulous and it was only right we installed one at the Crown Hotel after the huge success of the tree at Bawtry Hall. In many culture’s trees are sacred symbols of energy, spirituality, stability, growth and love – all of which very much reflect weddings and joyous special occasions that we host at the hotel.”

The Crown Hotel are holding a wedding open day, with doors opening from 11am to 3pm on Sunday 8th March 11am to 3pm where couples can come and view the recent renovations and the new blossom tree! No appointment necessary couples can just call in!
